“¡Gracias Señor! Thank you Lord”

“The families of the first miners rescued from the San Jose

mine were deeply moved and surprised, but not only to be

with them again. Some of the surprise was because of the

T-shirts that many of miners wore as they came to the

surface.

The shirts, which have a large White star over blue and red

on the front, have the words “¡Gracias Señor! Thank you

Lord”. On the back the shirts another phrase appears “In his

hand are the depths of the earth and the peaks of the

mountains are also his. His is the honor an the glory" which

corresponds to Psalm 95 verse 4."

Alicia and I were glued to the news over the last two days, following the Chilean mine rescue. It was so amazing and inspiring to see this rescue effort and to hear about the detailed planning and effort by the Chilean government. We were also so fascinated as details were unfolded about the lives of these men, and as they emerged from the mine, noticing "JESUS" printed on the sleeves of their shirts.

And following the rescue we were so encouraged to hear that Campus Crusade had provided the T-shirts for the miners, along with MP3s for each of them, containing audio of the Bible and the JESUS film for them to listen to while trapped in the mine.

We also wanted to share this report we received from the Campus Crusade staff in Chile:

How could we not praise God for His greatness and power?

It was just a few weeks ago when we contacted some of the

families of the 33 miners trapped in the San José mine, in order to give them the Word of

God and the Jesus film in audio in 33 MP3s, one for each of them.

José Henriquez was our contact inside the mine. He is an

extraordinary man. The psychologists that were monitoring the

group recognized his tremendous emotional and spiritual support for the rest of the miners.

He wrote the following in a letter:

-“I want to thank God for this tremendous blessing for me and my coworkers. It will be good for

our edification" (referring to the MP3s)

-“I am well because Christ lives in me”

-“We have prayer meetings at 12:00am and 6:00pm”

-“I ask you to pray not only for the people here but for all the souls that are lost in the world”

At the end of the letter he closed with Psalm 95:4. “In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the

mountain peaks belong to him”.

This beautiful verse is the same one that, for His glory, He allowed us to print on the back of the 33

shirts that the majority of the miners have used as they left the depths of the mine and were brought

to the surface to meet their families. On the front, in large letters,“¡Gracias Señor! Thank you Lord”,

to give thanks to the Lord Jesus Christ, who kept them alive and allowed them to be rescued from

the depths of the earth.

It is a privilege for us to serve in this ministry and know that God is using us to take the gospel

to every corner of the earth; even deep into the hard rock of the desert of northern Chile.
