Catching Up

This weekend, our friends visited us! They've moved away from Lawrence now, but we met them when we were 12 weeks along in our pregnancy and they were 14. So, we had a lot in common right away! Their friendship was such a blessing to us during the short period that we were together. They have a son who is a month older than Jack (he was early and Jack was late), so they were the ones who REALLY understood what we were going through during those difficult early months of parenthood. In fact, even though Laurel had a baby of her own, she would come over and hold Jack for me, giving me a few moments to rest. It was hard being away from family during that hard time and so many months with a screaming baby and no sleep, but God was so good to give us such good friends!

We were really sad to see them leave, but it was so much fun to see the little boys together again! At first, Jack didn't do very well with Preston. I guess he just hasn't had much experience in interacting with other babies. Other than seeing his cousins a few times, Jack's most frequent playmate (other than Mommy and Daddy) has been his toy Penguin. He loves the thing and it is so cute (he even knows the word penguin and will find it when I ask him to). The problem is that while it's okay for him to tackle the penguin and hug him as hard as he wants, it isn't okay for him to do that with other kids. I think it took Preston a little while to warm up to Jack's method of playing as he seemed to treat Preston like the penguin. After the excitement wore off though, they "played" pretty well together!
