Personal Highlight

One of my highlights this summer was a morning men's activity we had last Sunday. We woke up all the men at 6:30 a.m. and ran them through an obstacle course in teams of 4 or 5. After one time through the course, we ran them through it again with hindrances. We gave them 5 verses in advance and asked them to have them memorized by Sunday. The guys who didn't have them memorized were given the hindrances, which consisted of duct taping hands together or one of their arms to their body or even ankles taped together. The second time through the obstacle course they worked together and were really bearing each others burdens.

The purpose of this mentally and physically demanding activity was to illustrate the importance of being grounded in Scripture and leaning on each other as we walk with the Lord.
After the activity, I had the opportunity to lead the men through a time of debriefing. I asked a few questions to help them process that time as a group and then spoke about the importance of leaning on each other as we seek to become men of God. It was the first time for me to give a talk and was a great opportunity to share with the men things from my life and what I'm learning. It was great to see their reaction to the activity, as a positive illustration of the importance of walking together.
