Reaching Athletes

Just like most semesters, there are some exciting opportunities on the college campus. A lot of people to meet, leaders to invest in, and various campus organizations to engage with. One segment of the campus I have always had a desire to be around is athletes. When you pull back the curtains of the competition, you see the realities of life as a student-athlete. Constant training, study halls, workouts, fear of injury, living up to competitive standards, image, and a number of other things that come with it. And with the loss of the Football and Wrestling programs at UNO, there has definitely been a loss in regards to having momentum and more of a spiritual presence there.

I have recently entered into a partnership with the athletics chaplain at UNO. It has been a great partnership for us. He has spent a lot of time over the last few years investing in relationships with the coaches and the athletic director, and there is a level of trust within the athletic department. Next week we will be launching an Athlete's Bible study. We have the backing and full support of the athletic director, now we just need the athletes to show up. My heart is to have a presence there beyond just a large group Bible study, and really have the opportunity to walk alongside those athletes during this time in their lives.
