Tuesday was one of the most significant days of the entire project. We had what is called "The International Journey" and I can't think of a more perfect setting than Epcot's World Showcase. The purpose of this day is to cast vision for the spiritutal needs around the world and the discrepancy of the availability of the gospel. The World Showcase has eleven countries on display, including authentic looking architecture, shops, restaurants that represent each of the countries.
The students were split into different groups based on which country they would be in that day and would experience activities (some of them intense) and food that would be representative of that culture and of the availability of the gospel in that country. At the end of that time, there was a break to debrief and reflect on some of the realities that they just experienced. The students then took a couple hours to go back into those countries and engage the workers in each country (all the workers in each country are actually from those countries), asking about their home and their culture. This typically is a day when "engaging the world" truly becomes a reality for the summer project. In fact, after our time at Epcot, a group of our students spent a few hours with some of the Canadian students they met. And, tonight we will be hosting a Luau for which several International students were invited to.
Epcot's World Showcase is such a GREAT setting, because we literally walked through several continents, in terms of the different international students we engaged with.
